Aung San Suu Kyi is ailing; junta is denying giving proper medical treatment!

Aung San Suu Kyi is very unwell and specialist emergency medical attention is needed. She was suffering from dehydration, low blood pressure and not able to eat well.

Aung San Suu Kyi has been under house arrest for 13 years in last 19 years. Instead of giving her full medical attention which desperately needed junta arrested her personal doctor.

Junta’s shear brutality has reached epic perorations in senseless crimes against humanity by denying giving proper medical treatment to ailing Aung San Suu Kyi. The free and democratic world has a moral responsibility to intervene on behalf of humanity.

“The criminal regime of Than Shwe has crossed the boundaries of morality as well as sanity,” said Myo Thein, Director at the Burma Democratic Concern (BDC).

United States, United Kingdom and United Nations leadership have been unbelievably silent. Barack Obama, Gordon Brown and Ban Ki-Moon must open their mouths and voice for justice, voice for humanity and voice for well being of Aung San Suu Kyi.

Aung San Suu Kyi’s party, NLD, won landslide victory in 1990 general election but regime still ignore to honour it. Instead put Aung San Suu Kyi under house arrest and she has spent 13 of the last 19 years.

Aung San Suu Kyi’s detention expired for continuous five years and regime extended another year even though under 1975 Emergency Law Section 10(b) does not allow anyone to detain more than five consecutive years. The junta is violating its own law by extending her detention period last year. Aung San Suu Kyi will complete six years of continuous detention on 27 May 2009.

International community must demand the junta to give Aung San Suu Kyi proper medical attention and to release her immediately.
