Peace in Burma Now!

17 January 2013

Burma Democratic Concern (BDC) calls for peace in Burma. We are very saddened to learn that the fighting between government and Kachin troops are intensified in Kachin State, Burma. We call for all parties concerns to work by all means to restore ever lasting peace in Burma. We believe in equality, diversity and unity in harmony. We believe in peaceful co-existing amongst people with different ideas, beliefs, language, religion and customs.

To establish a genuine federal union, Burma must grantee to protect and promote ethnics rights such as language, culture, environment, religion and music. In order to achieve genuine national reconciliation in Burma, we must have peace in Burma. Fighting between Burma Central Government and Kachin Army have been the major challenge working for democratisation of Burma.

It is true to say that peace will bring peace and war will bring war. Both leaders of the Armies must learn how to achieve peace by peaceful means so that we will have peace in Kachinland. We also would like to highlight here that war is not the solution. We cannot achieve peace through war. If we really want peace, we won’t get it with war. Real and lasting peace is possible, but only by us creating an environment for peace.

To achieve peace we must understand the real cause of war. Kachin Army and Burmese Government must try meeting and reasoning together with the aim of achieving peace. Having peace within our own nation will bring prosperity to the people of the whole nation. Above all, Burma must work without wavering to achieve peace realities in all areas of the country.

We are very much concerned that children, women and elderly are paying the price dearly. We would like to stress here that working to achieve ever lasting peace, unity in harmony and equality in diversity, should be one of the most important objectives for Kachin Army and Burmese Government. We call for immediate cessation of all military activities from both sides in order to achieve peace through political dialogue.

We oppose war and we truly believe that guns and bullets won’t solve the problems but only through genuine dialogue, mutual understanding, mutual trust and mutual respect will bring hope of peace. Finding peace is two ways communication and we would like to stress here that both Kachin Army and Burmese Army must have the sincerity and genuine desire to see peace and prosperity in Kachin state.

We call for Burmese Government, all the Burmese parliamentarians and all the people who concern peace in Burma to work your utmost possible to achieve peace realities in Kachin land. We call for both Burmese Army and Kachin Army to do genuine dialogue for the sake of the people in the region and peace in Burma.
