Burmese-Canadians to protest for truth

August 30, 2012

MEDIA ADVISORY: Burmese-Canadians to protest against dissemination of misinformation on communal conflict in Burma TORONTO, August 29, 2012 – Members of Burmese community will gather this Saturday (September 1st, 2012) in Toronto to protest against misinformation on recent communal conflict in Western Burma.

The rally will be calling to reflect the actual events taken place in Burma and present stories on both sides of the conflict, with a direct request to media in particular to carefully examine information, materials and stories distributed by some interest groups. Members of Burmese community are shocked by false allegations, fake pictures and insulting slogans in recent pro-Rohingya protests in Toronto, for such careless, random and inconsiderate attempts willy-nilly tarnish the image of Burmese community in general and Buddhist Burmese community in particular.

DETAILS Burmese community members will initially gather at One Young Street (in front of the Toronto Star building) and will march to the Queen’s Park. Date: Saturday, September 1st, 2012 Time: 1:00pm – 4:00pm Location: One Young Street and a march to Queen’s Park at 2pm, Toronto, Canada
